How to update your subscription and delivery addresses when moving
It's easy to forget about the various subscriptions and regular deliveries tied to your old address. From Amazon to recipe boxes to contact lenses, updating these before you move prevents missed deliveries and wasted money.
Make a list of everything that gets delivered
Go through your bank and credit card statements for the last 3 months and note every recurring payment that involves a delivery or subscription. Common ones include Amazon Prime, Gousto or HelloFresh, pet food deliveries, vitamins, contact lenses, magazines, wine clubs, and anything else that arrives at your door on a schedule. Don't forget to also update your TV licence address and transfer or cancel your gym membership.
Update delivery addresses before you move
Log in to each service and update your delivery address a day or two before you move — or on the day, depending on when your next delivery is due. For Amazon, remember to update your default delivery address as well as any saved addresses in your account. If you use Amazon Locker or a click-and-collect point, update that too.
Don't forget digital subscriptions with billing addresses
Streaming services, app subscriptions, and digital memberships often have a billing address on file. While they won't send you a parcel, having the wrong address can cause payment issues, especially if your card's billing address no longer matches. Update Netflix, Spotify, Apple, Google, and any other digital services. Make sure you've also updated your bank address so your billing details are consistent.
Common questions
- What if a delivery goes to my old address?
- If you've set up Royal Mail redirection, parcels sent via Royal Mail will be forwarded. However, couriers like DPD, Hermes, and Amazon's own delivery service aren't covered by mail redirection. Contact the retailer to rearrange delivery.
- Should I pause subscriptions around moving day?
- It's a good idea. Most subscription boxes let you skip a delivery or pause your account. This avoids deliveries arriving while you're mid-move and potentially getting lost.
- How do I check what subscriptions I have?
- Check your bank statements for recurring payments. Apps like Emma or Money Dashboard can help identify subscriptions. Also check your email for regular order confirmations or dispatch notices.
