Why does it matter?
Beyond your right to vote, being on the electoral roll helps your credit score. Lenders and credit reference agencies use it to confirm your name and address. If you're not registered, you may find it harder to get approved for credit cards, mortgages, or even mobile phone contracts. Make sure you also update your bank address so your financial records match.
How to register
Go to GOV.UK/register-to-vote. You'll need your National Insurance number and new address. The whole process takes about 5 minutes. You'll be registered at your new address and automatically removed from your old one.

Register as soon as you've moved in. There's no waiting period. The sooner you're on the register, the sooner it's reflected in your credit file. You'll also want to update your council tax and update your driving licence around the same time.
