Do I have to update my driving licence?
Yes — by law, you must update your driving licence address as soon as you move. Failing to do so can result in a fine of up to £1,000. Your driving licence is also one of the most commonly used forms of ID, so keeping it up to date avoids problems when you need to prove your address. You'll also need to update your V5C if you own a vehicle.
How to update it online
Go to the DVLA's online service at GOV.UK. You'll need your current driving licence number, your National Insurance number, and your new address. The whole process takes about 5 minutes. You don't need to send in your old licence — just cut it up once you receive your new one.

Your new driving licence should arrive within 2–3 weeks. You can legally drive using your old licence while you wait. If it hasn't arrived after 3 weeks, contact the DVLA. Don't forget to also update your car insurance address — driving with the wrong address on your policy could void your cover.
What about a provisional licence?
The same process applies to provisional licences. Update it online through the same GOV.UK service — it's free whether you have a full or provisional licence.
